I learned the hard way about the importance of staying active.

When I retired, I knew very little about staying active and how it would affect my health and lifestyle.

My name is Bob Fletcher, I retired in 2001.

Bob and his great niece Madison. She is my greatest inspiration for staying active now and for many more years in the future.

Before retiring, my work and a few other activities, including a lot of golf in the summer, was enough to keep me in reasonably good shape.

When I retired I continued playing golf in the summer, but winters were a different story.

I did my normal daily chores but not much more. I spent a lot of time at my computer, which was keeping me busy, but I was definitely not very active.

I paid for those winter months of total inactivity, I gain weight, my cholesterol went up, I went from being able to control my diabetes with diet a lone, to having to take insulin twice a day, and my energy level dropped, to name a few.

The worst was when my legs started to bother me (poor circulation, arthritis) and I was unable to walk for any distances and had to stop playing golf.

Walking the course and interacting with friends was big part of the enjoyment I received from the game.

This is when I decided to put the time I was spending on the computer to good use and find ways to improve my life.

There is a lot of health and fitness information out there and it can get very confusing at times.

What I have tried to do with this website is include the information that I found most useful, information that has been helpful for me to better understand why and how different activities could help improve my health and fitness.

Golf is one activity I have never regretted getting involved in.

I hope this information will help you to better understand the importance of staying active after you retire and it leads to a long, healthy and enjoyable retirement.

Bob Fletcher

A sedentary or inactive life-style will lead to many age related illness and conditions that will rob you of both your health and mobility and without these retirement is not going to be much fun.
